ECUADOR
Wednesday, October 24, 2018, 21:20 (GMT + 9)
Starting today, and until November 23, the second fishing ban period on small pelagic fish will be effective, as it was informed by the Ministry of Aquaculture and Fisheries.
The industrial purse seine fleet must remain in port during the closure, since the small pelagics fisheries management and regulation is carried out with the purpose of guaranteeing the sustainability of these species, particularly important for the production of canned seafood.

During this ban period, the capture of species like the sardine, mackerel, Pacific anchovy, jack mackerel and Pacific bumper, among other fish having commercial interest is prohibited.
While the ban is in force only the resources captured before the start of the closure that have been verified in the stock inspections by the fishing authority may be transported, processed and marketed.
The first period of the fishing ban on small pelagic fish, established as the current one through Ministerial Agreement MAP-SRP-2018-0019-A- of January 31, 2018, extended from March 1 to 31 of this year.
