  • EROSKI is at the forefront of sustainable fishing in Spain by launching the first own-brand canned light tuna with MSC certification.
  • This new product, available throughout its commercial network and online, reaffirms EROSKI's commitment to quality and respect for the oceans. With this addition, EROSKI reaches 35 references of MSC sustainable fishing products, consolidating its leadership in the sector.
  • Its commitment has been recognised on two occasions with the "Mares Para Siempre" award in the 'MSC Certified Fishmongers' category.

EROSKI has launched the first own-brand canned light tuna with Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) sustainable fishing certification on the Spanish market. This canned light tuna in olive oil, under the blue 'MSC' seal, is now available throughout its commercial network and in its online supermarket.

It is the first own-brand canned light tuna with MSC certification on the Spanish market. This tuna is sold under the EROSKI brand in a three-unit box made of recyclable cardboard. The light tuna has been caught with a line and hook, an artisanal and environmentally friendly technique that minimises the impact on marine ecosystems.

Light tuna is appreciated for its texture, flavour and its high nutritional value, rich in proteins, omega 3, vitamins and minerals. Thanks to olive oil, this product offers a balanced flavour and is enriched with the healthy properties of this oil.

This tuna is nutritious, healthy, comes from sustainable fishing and is versatile in the kitchen.

"This MSC light tuna is an example of EROSKI's commitment to healthy and sustainable food," says Carmen Guelbenzu, area commercial director.

"This MSC light tuna preserve is the first of its own brand in Spain, a milestone that we hope will inspire other distributors," says Alberto Garazo, senior commercial manager of MSC Spain and Portugal.

EROSKI Sustainable Policy

With this new product, EROSKI now has 35 products with the MSC seal, including the MSC Seleqtia bonito and the MSC Natur Cantabrian anchovy. EROSKI has twice been awarded the "Mares Para Siempre" prize for its commitment to sustainable fishing. The MSC accreditation audits the entire fish handling process, guaranteeing traceability and good practices throughout the chain.
