Will the Russian Far East be the country with the most snow crabs in 2025?

Expected increase of 8% to 33,000 tons
It has been found that the total allowable crab catch (TAC) in the Russian Far East is expected to increase in 2025. In particular, the proposed TAC for snow crabs (Opilio species) from the Far East is expected to reach 33,214 tons, an increase of 8% compared to the 2024 quota, the highest amount since 2013. This was announced on the 25th by the Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (Vniro).
For snow crabs (Valdai species) it is expected to reach 5,284 tons, an increase of 16% compared to the 2024 quota
In the Far East, quotas for Opilio species have been increased in the main fishing areas of northern Okhotsk, Primorye and West Bering. For the rest of the fishing grounds, the amount will be the same as in 2024.
