Vice Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture articulates actions with regional authorities and local producers

With the purpose of working in an articulated manner with the regional governments and promoting a dialogue with the aquaculturists of the Puno region, the Ministry of Production (Produce) chaired the Multisectoral Working Group for Sustainable Development, together with the Federation of Producers of Trout and the marketers of hydrobiological products from the Pomata district.

“For me it is an honor to visit this distinguished city and, above all, to articulate efforts to highlight aquaculture, which is very important in Puno. As a sector, we continue working to strengthen the economic reactivation of the country by bringing Produce services to the most remote areas of the country,” said the Vice Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Jesús Barrientos.

As a result of this technical working group, the authorities of the sector established joint actions to strengthen the technical file of the artisanal fishing landing site (DPA) El Faro de Pomata.

Along these lines, the Ministry of Production incorporated the preparation of said file into the Multiannual Investment Programming to strengthen joint work with the competent authorities.

Training and technical assistance

In addition, Sanipes will promote training through technical assistance to fishermen and aquaculture farmers in Puno, with the aim of strengthening trout production and strengthening good practices for handling and preserving aquaculture products.

At the meeting, crucial topics were also addressed such as the sustainability of hydrobiological resources, the work being done to promote aquaculture production in the Puno region, fisheries management of the main species, environmental mitigation and landing infrastructure. artisanal fisheries.

On the other hand, Vice Minister Barrientos maintained that it is essential to seek responsible and sustainable aquaculture, in order to appropriately reactivate the region's markets.

“We are going to work to strengthen trout production in the region, but we must also take primary care with our ecosystem, including Lake Titicaca, where this activity takes place,” he emphasized.

The voice of artisan producers

Artisanal fishermen in the Puno region expressed the need for greater actions to strengthen aquaculture production and strengthen the El Faro Pomata DPA, in order to promote the improvement of artisanal fishing landings in the southern part of the country.

Along these lines, Vice Minister Barrientos expressed that Produce will collect and work in an articulated manner with local and regional governments and congressmen representing the Puno region the requests presented at the work meeting.

The technical table was attended by the mayor of Pomata, Mario Torres, and congressmen Carlos Zeballos and Carlos Anderson. In addition, the head of Fondepes, Katia Novoa and representatives of Sanipes, Imparte and Itp, among other authorities, participated.

Preliminary activity

Previously, the Vice Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture visited the Cusipata aquaculture production center, in order to promote productive development and strengthen good practices with fishermen who promote trout production in the region.

He also toured the aquaculture health laboratory managed by the National Fisheries Health Organization (Sanipes) and whose purpose is to carry out early diagnoses of pathogenic agents that affect rainbow trout.

In this way, Produce reaffirms its commitment to working hand in hand with aquaculture fishermen to promote public policies that strengthen the productive development of trout in the Puno region.
