Technological institute and fishing company seek profitable use of shrimp waste

INTI-Mar del Plata signed an agreement with a national fishing company with the aim of contributing to solve the problems caused by the industrial processing of shrimp in Argentine Patagonia.
Shrimp is the main crustacean exploited along the Argentine Sea, with Puerto Deseado, Rawson and Puerto Madryn being the main landing sites, with 166,000 tonnes registered in 2016.
Year after year, a significant fraction of these shrimp catches are processed on land and generate large volumes of waste. As there are no plants that use them, these residues are disposed in the open, and this causes environmental problems in the final disposal areas.
