Alfonso Miranda Eyzaguirre re-elected as president of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)

The Peruvian fishing businessman, Alfonso Miranda Eyzaguirre, was unanimously elected for the fourth consecutive time as president of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) within the framework of the 100th Tuna Meeting.
Prior to the tuna event, Panamanian Arnulfo Franco was chosen as its director.
Miranda Eyzaguirre pointed out that his re-election is also a recognition of Peru's age-old status as a fishing country.
"It is the work for fishing and aquaculture for human consumption that national entrepreneurs have been developing and our great tuna vocation that must be consolidated to provide thousands of jobs, food security and wealth generation," said Miranda Eyzaguirre
During the annual tuna meeting in the city of Phoenix, Arizona, the countries that make up the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) discussed the following topics: Promotion of the Dolphin Safe Certification System, Tuna Tracking, Review of the application of the measures adopted by the Commission, the Working Group on Capacity and the Agreement on the International Dolphin Conservation Program (AIDCP).
Miranda Eyzaguirre reported that measures related to transshipment issues, northern albacore, compliance, closed dates, establishment of an ad hoc working group on electronic monitoring, and the terms of reference for a working group on ecosystems and bycatch were approved.
He added that important advances were made in other aspects related to the institution.
