BioMar Norway Secures ASC Certification, Bolstering Sustainable Aquaculture Feed Supply

  (NORWAY, 6/1/2025)

Company's Myre and Karmøy Facilities Join Global Ranks, Enabling Salmon Farmers to Meet Key Sustainability Standards by October 2025.

OSLO – BioMar Norway has announced a significant milestone in its sustainability journey, achieving the coveted Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Standard certification for its facilities in Myre and Karmøy. This accomplishment strengthens BioMar's position as a leading producer of responsibly sourced aquaculture feed, a crucial step for the global industry.

This certification comes after a demanding audit conducted by independent firm Bureau Veritas in February and March 2025. The process involved a thorough review of factory operations, raw material procurement, and production processes against the ASC's strict requirements for environmental and social responsibility throughout the entire feed production value chain.

The timing is particularly critical as, beginning in October 2025, aquaculture farmers seeking ASC certification for their own facilities will be required to use ASC-certified feed. BioMar Norway's new certification is therefore essential to support its customers in achieving their sustainability goals.

"This certification is a result of our long-term work to ensure that feed production for aquaculture is carried out in a sustainable way, both for the environment and people," said Håvard Jørgensen, CEO of BioMar Norway. "We are proud to be able to offer our customers feed that meets the strictest requirements for environmental and social responsibility."

This latest achievement follows previous ASC Feed Standard certifications for BioMar facilities in Chile, Ecuador, and the UK. With Norway now onboard, BioMar further solidifies its global commitment to sustainable feed production.

The ASC Feed Standard is an international benchmark ensuring:

  • Sustainable Raw Material Use: Ingredients originate from responsible, certified sources.
  • Environmental Considerations: Reduced emissions and efficient resource use in production.
  • Traceability: Full transparency throughout the supply chain.
  • Social Responsibility: Fair working conditions and treatment of employees.

BioMar has previously emphasized its comprehensive review and update of policies to align with ASC requirements, integrating these into local management systems to ensure global consistency. Meeting the demands of ASC-certified fish and shrimp farms globally remains a top priority for the company.
