Top Russian fish exports topped by pollock

Analysts of the Fish Union made up the top types of Russian fish exports for the first 7 months of 2023.

- Frozen pollock is in first place: it accounted for 44% of all supplies in weight (+23% compared to the same period in 2022) and 21% in value terms (+26% yoy).
- The second position is occupied by frozen herring: 19% in weight (+40%) and 5% in value (+9%).
- The third line is again pollock, only fillets: 5% in weight (-42%) and 7% in value (-48%).
- The fourth position is occupied by frozen Atlantic cod: 5% in weight (-3%) and 7% in value (+5%).
- And frozen Pacific cod rounds out the top 5. This type of product accounted for 3% in weight of the total volume of fish exports (-17% compared to last year) and 5% in value (-25%). This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Fish Union.
The volume of exports of fish products from Russia in January-July 2023 amounted to 1.4 million tons, remaining at the same period in 2022.

According to the Analytical Center of the Fish Union, the volume of exports of fish products from Russia in January-July 2023 amounted to 1.4 million tons, remaining at the same period in 2022.
Union analysts note that the total cost of supplies for the first 7 months of this year decreased by 12% compared to the same period in 2022, to $2.9 billion.
“The share of China, which ranks first in the structure of Russian fish exports, grew to 53% in weight and 43% in value in the first 7 months of this year,” reads a publication posted on the Union ’s Telegram channel .
South Korea's share increased to 34% in weight and 35% in value. The Netherlands accounted for 8% in weight, but the share in value did not change (14%). Japan accounted for 1% of supplies (3% in value terms).

Germany also entered the top 5 largest markets for Russian fish, although its share fell to 1% in weight and 1% in value.
Analysts of the union also draw attention to the expansion of supplies of fish products to African countries. For example, in the first half of 2023, pollock fillets and frozen herring were shipped to Liberia and frozen herring to Togo and Niger (there were no such deliveries a year earlier).
