Blumar is sentenced for providing false information to Sernapesca

The Court of Letters and Guarantees of Aysén sentenced the company Blumar S.A. in the first instance to pay a fine of 500 UTM and to suspend a salmon production cycle, for providing false information to Sernapesca, regarding the Specific Sanitary Program for Surveillance and Control of Caligidosis, specifically the date on which pharmacological baths were carried out at the Concheo 2 cultivation center.

The company provided false information regarding the execution of pharmacological treatment with hexaflumuron for caligus, a parasite that adheres to the skin, gills and fins of fish and can cause various problems in salmon, such as skin irritation, damage to the gills, general weakening, stress and even death. In addition, caligidosis can cause delayed growth in parasitized fish, among others.

“The false information consisted of adulteration of the dates of the pharmacological treatment. This constitutes the violation of delivery of false information established in the final paragraph of article 113 of the General Law of Fisheries and Aquaculture,” indicated Jorge Padilla, Regional Director (s) of Sernapesca Aysén.

“In February 2020, we carried out an inspection of the Concheo 2 cultivation center, with the purpose of verifying the health status of the center. It was in this instance where we were able to verify, through the review of tickets and records, that there were no fish bathing operations on the date reported by the company, and instead, there were between November 27 and 28, 2019. ”explained the Director of the Aysén Region.

Caligus baths aim to control the parasite load to ensure animal welfare in salmon. These baths must always be informed in advance to Sernapesca, from where it is monitored remotely or in person that they are carried out with the appropriate medication management, that is, that the appropriate drug is used, at the correct times, in the established concentrations, between other considerations established in the Law.

Regarding the suspension of the production cycle, this refers to the absolute prohibition of stocking fish in a culture center for a certain time, preventing production tasks from being carried out in relation to them.
