Hainan Airlines Resumes Direct Flights for Salmon and Passengers Between Beijing and Oslo

  (NORWAY, 1/8/2025)

Oslo – Hainan Airlines (HU) has announced the resumption of its direct flights between Beijing (PEK) and Oslo Airport (OSL) starting March 22, 2025.

This pivotal development enhances connectivity between Norway and China, providing significant benefits to Norwegian tourism, the seafood industry—particularly salmon exports—and bilateral trade.

The route will operate as a seasonal service until October 25, 2025, with three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. An Airbus A330-300 will service the route, offering 292 seats, including 32 in business class, catering to both passenger comfort and cargo needs. As the fastest connection between Norway and China, this direct service strengthens access to one of Norway’s most vital international markets.

Strengthening Economic and Cultural Ties

“This route provides an essential link to China, reinforcing Norwegian tourism, business ties, and seafood exports,” said Ulv Elbirk, Director of Route Development at Avinor. “With growing Chinese interest in Norway, this direct connection will enable even more visitors to experience Norway’s natural beauty and unique culture.”

The route, last operated from May to October 2019, was suspended due to the pandemic. Its return signifies the restoration of an essential bridge between the two nations, facilitating tourism, cultural exchange, and a critical boost for Norway’s seafood industry, especially for salmon exports where cargo transport is a key component of the service.

Improved travel conditions and rising demand for connections to China underscore the route’s potential to strengthen economic and cultural collaboration between the countries.
