Mowi Initiates Strategic Review of Feed Division, Considers Potential Sale
(NORWAY, 3/5/2025)
Mowi announced on Tuesday that it has commenced a strategic review of its integrated feed division, exploring all available options, including a possible sale.

"The review will consider all available options, including a possible sale," the company stated in a press release.
In 2024, the feed division generated operating revenues of €1,122 million and an operational EBITDA of €62 million.

The division's core assets consist of feed mills in Norway and Scotland, boasting production capacities of 460,000 tonnes and 240,000 tonnes, respectively, for a total capacity of 700,000 tonnes. This includes an ongoing capacity expansion of 60,000 tonnes in Norway, expected to be fully operational by the second quarter of 2026. These facilities effectively met the feed requirements of Mowi's European salmon farming operations in the preceding year. The feed division employs 140 full-time equivalents.
"Mowi has rapidly expanded from a 400,000-tonne fish farmer to nearly 600,000 tonnes, with production spanning seven countries and 11 fish farming regions, introducing significant operational complexity. Mowi also maintains extensive processing operations in 26 countries. To optimize our operations, we believe it's prudent to evaluate the future organization of our feed division," explained Mowi CEO Ivan Vindheim in the statement.
Mowi has retained Arctic Securities to advise on the strategic review.
The company emphasized that while a structured process is underway, there is no guarantee that a transaction will occur, nor are the potential terms predetermined.

"Mowi will provide updates as warranted, but does not intend to offer further commentary on the process unless a definitive agreement is reached or the review is concluded," the company stated.
At least three-quarters of the salmon's climate footprint is linked to the feed. "Råvareløftet," a 2020 initiative by Mowi, The Bellona Foundation, the Norwegian Seafood Federation, and fish feed industry leaders, seeks to reduce the climate impact of Norwegian salmon. By accelerating the development of new fish feed raw materials, the initiative aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions, create jobs, and advance aquaculture.
