Spanish Bank to finance tuna vessel building for Mexican group

The chairperson of Grupo Marítimo Industrial (Grupomar) from Mexico, Antonio Suárez, confirmed that "in some days" Astillero Armón will start the construction of a tuna vessel. The idea is that the ship is completed within a year and a half.
To perform this request, the Mexican company requested a loan from Banco Herrero for EUR 16.2 million.
The new boat will be 78 meters in length and 13 metres wide, and it is the first one in a series of vessels Grupomar plans to acquire.
"We expect the boat that will be started right away is just the beginning for the shipyard to start work and to be able to offer the jobs that people in Asturias need right now," said Suárez, according to the newspaper La Nueva España.
It is expected that for the construction of this tuna fishing vessel about 200 people will be employed. In a meeting with the general manager of Banco Herrero, Pablo Junceda; and the president of the Asturian Federation of Entrepreneurs (FADE), Severino García Vigón, Suárez confirmed that there is another Mexican canning group that negotiates with Armón.
"There may be good news soon," he stated.
While the economic situation in Spain is "difficult" Grupomar President hopes that the country "moves forward as Mexico has done during worse crisis, which led to the nationalization of banks."
Junceda considered Suárez is a "great ambassador for Asturian business abroad."
And García Vigón stressed the importance of the operation: "Supporting the internationalization of firms from Asturias is critical."
Finally, the Mayor of Gijón, Carmen Moriyón announced the construction of two tuna vessels in Astillero Armón, which will be added to the one ordered by Grupomar and to the two tuna ships that the company Albacora was going to order to Astilleros Barreras, from Vigo, and which the firm decided to divert to Gijón, reported El Comercio.
