PRODUCE strengthens fisheries health and access to nutritious food with a modern vehicle fleet

The addition of 22 new vehicles will enhance Sanipes’ inspection work and triple the operational capacity of the national program “A Comer Pescado” nationwide.

The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) has taken a decisive step to strengthen national fisheries health and expand access to high-nutritional-value food, with the incorporation of a modern fleet of 22 vehicles that will enhance the actions of the National Program “A Comer Pescado” and the National Authority for Fisheries and Aquaculture Health and Safety (Sanipes).

The fleet consists of 17 four-wheel-drive pickup trucks (4x4) to strengthen Sanipes’ sanitary inspection capacity, and 5 refrigerated trucks to optimize the distribution of fishery products through the “A Comer Pescado” program.

The 17 pickup trucks will be assigned to Sanipes’ Decentralized Sanitary Offices (OSD), enabling safe and timely transport of technical staff to processing plants, landing sites, and aquaculture centers located in remote areas of the coast, highlands, and Amazon region.

“These vehicles will allow Sanipes to perform its work more effectively. They are fully equipped to reach any location, visit processing plants, and carry out the required certifications,” stated the head of PRODUCE, César Quispe Luján.

The distribution of the vehicles has been strategically planned to strengthen operational presence in key regions such as Áncash, Piura, Callao, and Tumbes, among other areas with high fisheries and aquaculture activity.

This new logistics fleet will be essential to achieving institutional goals, enabling more than 27,000 inspections in 2026 and strengthening national fisheries health through guidance, preventive, and corrective actions.

More fish at fair prices

In addition, PRODUCE incorporated 5 refrigerated trucks for the “A Comer Pescado” National Program, ensuring the cold chain and efficient, timely distribution of value-added fishery products, especially to remote areas and populations with limited access to nutritious food.

“This fleet of five vehicles triples the operational capacity we had until recently in the “A Comer Pescado” program. It is an outstanding program that allows inland populations to purchase fishery products at fair prices and improve their families’ nutrition,” added César Quispe Luján.

Through promotion, food education, and productive development activities, the program prioritizes assistance to the most vulnerable areas of the country. The ceremony was attended by Sanipes Executive President Mónica Saavedra, “A Comer Pescado” Executive Coordinator Félix Fabián De La Vega, and other sector authorities.
