The company Distribuidora Internacional de Alimentación (DIA - International Food Distributor) belonging to the French group Carrefour, reached a gross turnover of EUR 4,469 million in Spain during 2010, which is 0.34 per cent more than a year earlier.
The company ended last year with 2,766 stores in the country (1,761 company owned and 1,005 franchised) and a workforce of 19,835 employees.
In addition, DIA reported that 2010 gross sales totaled EUR 10,531 million worldwide, a figure which shows a growth of 4.3 per cent over 2009.
In late 2010, the chain had 6,373 stores (4,303 comapny owned and 2,070 franchised), divided between Spain, France (936), Portugal (539), Turkey (890), Brazil (408), Argentina (448) and China (386), and a workforce of 47,817 employees.
Over the past year, DIA continued to invest in the modernization and transformation of its stores to new models named DIA Market and DIA Maxi.
Also in 2010, the chain worked "significantly" to advance its policy of environmental sustainability. One of the most important actions was the inauguration of its second store model 'eco-sustainable', with new energy saving systems, reports Servimedia.
In 2011, the company plans to continue to modernize its image, specifically, the packaging of their products. The main objective of the chain is to change the packaging of their products and promote DIA brand identification throughout the population.
