A total of four institutional commitments belonging to the 6th Open Government Action Plan have been highlighted by the International Partnership for Open Government (OGP) as part of the Open Government Challenge. One of them belongs to the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca), which stood out in the area of "anti-corruption" and joined this challenge with its commitment to "Implement the FITI Standard to promote greater fisheries transparency."
The Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Julio Salas, explained that "the FITI standard is an international body that aims at transparent and participatory governance of all actors in the fishing sector through pillars such as participation, transparency in aspects such as access to information, public debate and progressive improvements. We are therefore proud of this recognition and continue working to have more transparency and trust in the national fishing sector."
This recognition seeks to promote and implement projects and policies in strategic areas with a view to strengthening democracies and communities, and is also part of the OGP strategy, launched in 2023. Within this framework, the different governments propose initiatives that meet the requirements stipulated by the Alliance, as part of ongoing action plans or independently.
In this regard, the executive secretary of the Commission for Public Integrity and Transparency of Segpres, Valeria Lübbert, highlighted the importance of the commitments selected at the international level, indicating that "these target various areas, and include other powers of the State, thus underlining how the 6th Open State Action Plan marks the important step from the Open Government paradigm to that of an Open State, and we cannot fail to mention an important green seal, which we see exemplified here."
The other initiatives and commitments highlighted are: "Co-construction and dissemination of the Participatory Implementation Plan of Escazú" by the Undersecretariat of the Environment, "Open Data for more transparency in public procurement" by ChileCompra and "Open Justice for an Open State" by the Judicial Branch.
