The new freezer is approximately 1.2 meters narrower and features sliding doors that enable easy access for defrost and cleaning
Meet the ADVANTEC™ Narrow – the freezer that cuts gas bills and fits into small spaces
(UNITED STATES, 3/1/2026)
Launched by JBT Marel, the new Frigoscandia-branded ADVANTEC™ Narrow enables processors to reduce gas dependency while maximizing limited factory floor space
Food processors seeking to preserve the quality of fish, seafood, and meat—without expanding their production footprint—now have a compact, high-performance alternative. JBT Marel has introduced the ADVANTEC™ Narrow Impingement Freezer under its Frigoscandia brand, delivering the full capabilities of the original ADVANTEC system in a significantly slimmer design.
The new model is approximately 1.2 meters narrower than the standard ADVANTEC Impingement Freezer, allowing it to integrate into most existing production lines where space constraints previously limited upgrade options.
A timely solution amid rising gas costs
The launch comes as food manufacturers worldwide face escalating cryogenic gas prices. Many processors using cryogenic freezers—often selected for their compact width—have been searching for more cost-effective and energy-efficient freezing technologies.
The ADVANTEC™ Narrow offers a practical transition to full impingement freezing without requiring major facility redesigns. By maintaining high-capacity performance in a reduced footprint, the system enables longer production hours and improved operational efficiency compared to traditional cryogenic solutions.
According to Torbjörn Persson, Director of Global Sales Support & Product Line Management for Frigoscandia Freezers at JBT Marel, the development was driven directly by customer demand.
“Seeing that our customers wanted to maximize their production facilities, JBT Marel has developed a narrow footprint version of the ADVANTEC,” said Persson. “The new freezer is approximately 1.2 meters narrower and features sliding doors that enable easy access for defrost and cleaning. This area can also be used for transport access during production.”
He emphasized that despite the reduced footprint, “the freezing capabilities are identical to the standard ADVANTEC, allowing customers to benefit from a truly innovative freezing system.”
High-speed freezing for superior product quality
Engineered to meet specific market needs, the ADVANTEC™ Narrow supports high-speed freezing of flat products up to 25 mm thick, as well as chill and crust freezing of products up to 200 mm thick, including meat, seafood, and fish.
Using advanced air-jet impingement technology, the system rapidly freezes products within minutes. High-velocity cold air jets are directed evenly across the product surface, minimizing dehydration, reducing drip loss, and limiting the formation of large ice crystals that can compromise texture and taste.
The process helps preserve product quality, mouthfeel, and yield while extending shelf life—key performance factors for protein processors operating in competitive global markets.
Maximizing output in limited spaces
While the original ADVANTEC Impingement Freezer set new standards for freezing performance, its larger footprint presented challenges for facilities with capacity or space limitations.
The ADVANTEC™ Narrow addresses those constraints without sacrificing throughput or freezing performance. By combining space efficiency, reduced reliance on cryogenic gas, and advanced impingement technology, JBT Marel’s Frigoscandia brand positions the new system as a practical and cost-conscious upgrade for modern food processing operations.
