Garavilla starts moving some of its employees
(SPAIN, 1/16/2013)
It is expected that some of the workers of Conservas Garavilla in Vilaxoan will move to the plant located in O Grove and continue to develop their work there as from this Tuesday.
In addition, it is estimated that the machinery moving from the plant in Vilaxoan to the one in O Grove will also star in the coming days.
In the meantime, workers plan to hold a demonstration on 23 January.
For now, they have developed a manifesto that will be presented to social and economic groups in Vilagarcia to subscribe to it, newspaper La Voz de Galicia informed.
The document explains, "It is false that keeping this company in this town is not feasible, as Garavilla group intends to show ".
According to the female workers, "Conservas Cuca has production capacity, quality brands characterized by the craftsmanship of the preserves, which are highly appreciated by consumers."
In addition, they emphasize in the manifesto "it has modern machinery as a result of the modernization process promoted by the European funds for fishing, 16,000 square feet to expand its industrial facilities, and it also has the effort of its workers."
The employees intend to receive the support of politicians and government representatives in order to take steps to maintain the activity.
"It is not true when they say it has no productive capacity, it has become obsolete, it has no room to expand. Quite the contrary," the female workers added, according to newspaper Faro de Vigo.
Meanwhile, Vilagarcia’s mayor, Thomas Fole Diaz and Secretary General of Maritime Affaires of the Xunta De Galicia, Juan Carlos Maneiro, will meet in Santiago with Garavilla group’s representatives to seek alternatives to Cuca plant transfer project.
Garavilla states that "100 per cent of the jobs in Vilaxoan plant are fully guaranteed" and that the transfer of production to O Grove responds to "exclusively industrial" reasons.
In June 2011, Conservas Garavilla acquired 100 per cent of Conservas Cuca company, as part of a strategy to consolidate its position as a national market leader.
